This week has not been the most exciting week,
but I still loved it,
especially the last part.
Monday we went to the heian jingu shrine, and took tons of pictures,
those will be in the next couple of emails. It was way pretty. After
pday, we taught a lesson to Ayako Shimai, the less active who we are
trying to help over the phone, and also took some time for phone dendo
to set some appointments. We were trying for all throughout the week,
but everyone had time for tomorrow, and the times worked together, so
we made the plans that way.
Tuesday was sad. Lowry Shimai woke up and was way sick. She had no
energy either, and she ended up sleeping most of the day, though she
didn't want to. We had to cancel all of our appointments, because
there was just no way, and that was sad, because one member had
invited a less active over to meet us, but since the elders were able
to take that appointment over, it was ok. We also got transfer calls
today, and found out that Lowry Shimai is transferring to toyooka,
which is where Oswald Shimai went when she left Shimogamo as well. It
was kind of weird. And my new companion is Cannon Shimai, who was
Oswald shimais companion in toyooka. Kind of crazy how many of my
companions have served, or are now serving in toyooka.
Wednesday Lowry Shimai was still recovering from her cold, and also we
had to get her all packed for transfers the next day, which was fun.
What was I doing while she was sick. I cleaned the apartment, really
well, I just needed to clean, and it felt good to make it really
clean. I also worked on some things I hadn't been able to get to, but
all I really wanted to do was go outside and dendo, but I knew that
Lowry Shimai wasn't in any shape, and I much preferred helping her get
as better as possible before transfers happened. That night at
eikaiwa, I mainly taught, and taught about elementary school, I wish I
had a better memory of when I learned things, because they had a lot
of questions, but it was fun to take a trip down memory lane, and just
remember what awesome teachers and experiences I had in elementary
school. I wish I still remembered the dances from the end of year
school dance festival thing, that was fun.
Thursday was transfers, and Lowry Shimai still wasn't feeling too
good, but she made it through, and I sent her off, and got my new
companion. I hope she is doing ok, and she made it safely. Cannon
Shimai is way fun. She is full of energy, and doesn't care who knows
she is crazy. Which is a lot of fun. That night we did SKK, and then
we went to the escobedos. They had been trying to see us before
transfers, and Thursday worked for them, since Wednesday didn't, due
to eikaiwa, and I tried to explain that because it was transfer day,
only one of us would probably be there with a new companion, but I
apparently failed. They were surprised to see a new face, but we had a
great time with them, and it was fun to get to know them better.
Friday, it was my turn. I caught a cold as well, and I had felt it
coming on a bit, but refused to believe I was getting sick. But after
walking to the church, I was so out, but we kept going for a little
while. We tried to visit Karahashi Shimai, but she didn't answer, so
we tried ishida Shimai, and taught her about mothers, and used Jeffrey
r. Hollands talk behold thy mother. Which was way good, but after
that, I was out. I barely was able to stay awake on the train we took
home, and I think the only thing that kept me from it was the
knowledge my companion did not know where we were yet. We got some
help to know what medicine to get for a cold from Matsumoto choro, and
so we got that, and I ate when we get home, took the pills, and then
went to sleep. I didn't even wake up for planning, but slept straight
til the next morning, but I felt a lot better after that. Cannon
Shimai apparently tried to wake me up for planning. She called my name
a bunch, and then I opened my eyes, and stared at her. She asked if I
wanted to plan, and I just groaned and rolled back over, though I
don't remember it. I was probably still asleep, but she got a good
laugh out of it, so I guess that was good.
Saturday we got back out to dendo and taught a few lessons in the
riverside park, and on the way to the church. Cannon Shimai is really
eager to learn streeting, she has been in inaka, country, areas her
whole mission thus far, so she doesn't have too much experience with
that, but she learns fast, and it was a lot of fun. We also had ping
pong, and some members are starting to bring their friends, which is
just super awesome, and some of them have interest, so that is great.
Also got welcomed to the district by my new district leader, hanagan
choro, who I knew from the mtc. Katsura changed from sisters to
elders, so now my district leader and zone leaders are different,
which is way weird, but also cool.
Sunday regine came to church with hazel again, and it was lots of fun.
I had to translate for them though, and it was all hard things to
translate, plus regine didn't really have an understanding of what was
going on, plus my translation way rough, so that was a lot of fun. I
did my best to explain, instead of translate, and sometimes gave up on
translating, and explained, but it was way hard. They were talking
about the priesthood and other detailed things. It was ward
conference, so it was quite the intense, though fun experience. After
church we had a shoukuji, then went out to the park and talked to some
people that were really willing to listen, though they didn't want to
learn more, but that is ok. We also had a shokuji, dinner party, at
the mizoguchis, and hazel and Regine came, and it was way good. We
shared a message about overcoming trials through Christ, and had a
member help with translation, and it was way good. It was a lot of
fun.
I think when you get sick, you truly realize how blessed you are, and
how much fun your life is because as I was sick, I recognized I needed
rest, but all I wanted to do was go out and dendo, and I am so
grateful that I had a quick recovery, and that I am still able to
share the gospel with those around me. People keep pointing out that I
am getting close to done, having passed the half way mark now, and all
I want to do is keep going forever. I don't like it when they mention
how old I am getting as a missionary, but I am great full that I still
have a lot of time, and that I have had some amazing experiences so
far. I can't wait to see the miracles to come, because they are
definitely going to come.
I love you all, and miss you. Hope all is going well, and keep having
fun and working hard.
Love, Sister Makin

Getting sick is one of the most unfortunate parts of life but it can really make you appreciate how great life is when you are feeling your best. I am so sorry to hear about all the illness. One of the worst parts of being sick is that feeling of being tired and run down like you described. Get well soon!
