The impossible challenge and a new beginning

This week has been crazy, and I have loved every minute of it. Which
is probably crazy, but that is ok.

Monday last week, we went to a flea market, and it was a lot of fun,
but there wasn't anything I really wanted to buy there this time,
since I already have a kimono, though I did buy some fans. After pday,
we went to hazel and Regines apartment, and set up the fact that we
wanted to teach regine, and why, and she is willing to learn, but she
doesn't want to change, because her family is opposed to that.
Hopefully as she comes to know this is true, that will change.

Tuesday we did a lot of finding, which was a lot of fun, and we read
the challenge we had received from Welch kaicho, and it is super
exciting. We might have read it Monday, but I don't really remember.
Welch kaicho has challenged us, as a mission, to see a baptism by May
22nd, and even though it seems like an impossible challenge, I know it
is possible, and what is more, I can't wait to see what is going to
happen. we also had a lesson with Matsumoto San, and talked with her
about the restoration, and she had a lot of questions, we challenged
her to ask if Joseph smith was a prophet, and then to act on the
answer she receives. as of right now she doesnt really want to act,
but we hope that with patience, her heart will change. we also had no
time for dinner, so we grabbed a small something from a conveni, and
then sat at the park to eat it, and met a really nice lady, who was so
happy to see us, she started talking to us first! She said she would
come to church, not yet, but that isn't necessarily the end! We also
had game night, and that was a lot of fun.

Wednesday we met with Miyu, who is way awesome. She used to have a
baptismal date, but she isn't sure at the moment, and she hasn't been
able to come to church yet, so that isn't happening, yet, but we were
able to clear up some questions she had about the Book of Mormon, so
that was good. She has been taught a lot, but I think we will be
teaching her everything again, because she hasn't come to know if it's
true or not, so more than just knowing, she needs to feel and do. We
also had eikaiwa, and there weren't very many people there, because it
was a very rainy day, but it was a lot of fun, and we talked about
telephone calls.

Thursday we did SKK, which was great, and we really talked about all
the people we thought could maybe be baptized before the 22nd, and we
had four potentials. Only one is left, and that is only because she
has come to church, and the others haven't, and she has told us she
doesn't want to get baptized at this point, but that is ok, the lord
works miracles, and there is still hope. In fact more than that,
because he told us to do it, we can do it, and in the process of
working towards that, we will learn a lot.

That is what I learned Friday in district meeting. It was kind of
weird, because my district leader is actually separate from my zone
leaders now, but it was way awesome, and I got to hear more from
Matsumoto choro, so that was awesome. But my new district leader is
hanagan choro, and he taught an amazing district meeting, and the best
part was that we were all just talking, and sharing, and it was so
good. Before district meeting, I really wanted to see the baptism, but
I wasn't sure if it would happen for me or not, I haven't seen a
baptism yet in my mission, so in a way it is hard to see, but I know
it is possible, more than that it is going to happen. Hanagan choro
said as much, and I felt the spirit, and I knew that not only is it
possible, but it is going to happen. The lord does not give us
impossible challenges, and all I need to do is get out of the way. I
am so grateful for a challenge that seems impossible, but really
isn't, because the lord can do anything. He is a god of miracles. We
also had a lesson with Ayako Shimai, about the word of wisdom, and it
went well, hopefully it will help her to be strong too. And that night
we went to the yamamotos and taught the restoration using head
shoulders knees and toes, try to figure it out, it is a fun
connection. It was funny, because the Katsura elders were on a kokan
with the shimogamo elders in shimogamo, and we had gone to Katsura for
district meeting, but it was all good, and lots of fun.

Saturday we went to members, and told them about the elders baptism
tomorrow, though most of them knew, but it turned out really well. We
met a very sweet girl who is doing a home stay with one of the
members, and had a pretty good lesson with her, not sure if it will go
anywhere, but she is probably going to be praying, even though she had
tried it before and it was weird. We also had ping pong night, and it
was a little sad, though Miyu came, and that was fun. We took her on a
tour of the church, and the spirit was strong, that was also when we
found out that she doesn't feel ready to be baptized, and also doesn't
understand the difference between our church and other churches, so
that might take a while, but that is ok, she is awesome, and will
definitely be getting baptized, we just need to help her really
experience the truth for herself.

Sunday we had church. And it was awesome. No investigators, and that
kind of makes the challenge impossible but that is ok, we can still do
it. The elders investigator got baptized, and that was fun, got asked
Friday to sing, and then my voice cracked right before, so I was way
nervous, but it turned out ok. We also had normal meetings, and then a
dendo meeting with Itatani Kyodai, who is in the bishopric, and then
the preach my gospel prep class, which was a lot of fun. I don't think
I should be teaching it though, because I am learning still, so that
is fun. We then visited hazel and Regine, and went over the
restoration a bit more, and talked about the Book of Mormon, and
challenged her to read it, she said she would, so that is so exciting.
We then had to book it all the way across town to make it to the
mizoguchis, up the huge hill, and I was so tired by the time we made
it. I don't know how we made it all the way, because it was fast
Sunday. We had broken our fast, with just a little bread, and somehow
we made it all the way, and then I wasn't even that hungry, though I
ate a good amount at the mizoguchis. It was awesome, and I way packed
day. I don't know how we made it everywhere, but we did, and it was
awesome. Definitely a good work out.

I love this gospel, I love the chance I have to take on things I can't
do by myself, and rely on the lord. I know the church is true, and
that no matter what we are called on to do, we can do it, through the
power of the atonement. I challenge everyone to reach out to those
around you, and share the gospel with them, it is an act of love, and
the missionaries can't do it alone. We need the member missionaries.
More than ever now, as the lord truly is hastening his work! I love
and miss you all! See you next week!

Love, Sister Makin
